Results from Week 5 at UVM, Burlington, VT

Friday 2 April

Today was one of those days were we couldn’t keep everything on our robot together all at the same time. We had troubles with our turret, our Rio, and some other things. These all kept us from competing at 100% for most of the day. Even with these setbacks, we managed to secure the number 27 position of 34 teams after 47 matches. We still have 3 more qualification matches to play tomorrow and are hoping for the best.

Saturday 3 April

What a weekend! We started the Saturday at rank 27 out of 34 teams and won our last 3 qualification matches to end in 16th place! What a difference a working robot makes! All this hard work paid off as we were chosen by the number 3 alliance to compete in the playoffs. Playing alongside team 95 Grasshoppers and team 1073 The Force Team from Hollis-Brookline.

Our first round in the playoffs we faced a tough number 6 alliance who were behind most of the match until the last 15 seconds and pulled ahead of us by a couple points. When the final tally was revealed we won the match 351 to 343.

Just before our second playoff match we found out our alliance captain’s Rio (the main controller computer) was toast, so we had to play a backup robot in its place. As you can imagine this decimated our number 3 alliance’s scoring capacity. In turn, we lost our second match to the number 2 alliance by over 450 points.

So this leads us to our third match. Our alliance captain called a 5-minute time out to finish replacing their rio,… turns out they finished too late and the head referee wouldn’t let them compete. Our last and final match of the weekend had us compete with just 2 robots. Tough break for us as at lost our third and final playoff match.
